In all parts of the UK, the eclipse reached at least 83% with the darkness peaking at 9:35AM. Unfortunately, due to the weather conditions, London and the South East just saw the grey day get slightly gloomier. The best place to see it was the Shetland Islands, where 97% of the Sun's disc obscured by the Moon.
Millions of people in Britain and Northern Europe glimpsed the best solar eclipse in years and next year Sumatra, Borneo, Sulawsi and the Pacific, estimated for the 9th March. Sadly, the UK will no experience a solar eclipse on this scale again until 2026. Let's hope in 11 years time, us poor Kentish people will actually see the eclipse and not just the grey gloom of Great British weather.
